This book has earned a Newbery Honor Book award and is a New York Times bestseller talking about roller derby. You are probably wondering what roller derby is. It’s a sport with 2 teams using roller blades to move. There are blockers and a jammer[s]. Blockers are in a line and they try not to let the other team’s jammer get through and score points. The blockers use a technique called ‘hitting’ in which they use their hips to smack the jammer or the other team’s blockers.

‘’A page-turner!’’ Roller Girl by Victoria Jamieson
Have you ever heard of roller derby? If not, you should read this book. This book is about a 12 year old girl named Astrid and her BFF Nicole. Astrid signs up for roller derby camp and assumes Nicole will too. But Nicole signs up for dance camp with a new friend. And so begins a story of middle school drama.

Bam! This book blows your mind using graphic novel format to show emotions and expressions. The author builds a base using a classic storyline in tween books and adding the sport of roller derby as a sidetrack spurs you to be intrigued. This book makes you feel like you’re inside the story, that you’re the main character and you feel everything. I’d give this book 5 stars. If you are a fan of adventure, drama, and a happy ending, this book is for you!

In this book, there are seven different kinds of dragons and they have different elemental powers. They are: sand wings, mud wings, sky wings, sea wings, ice wings, rain wings, and the night wings. This book is about a dragon named Winter which is an ice wing. Winter can exhale a deadly frost breath but he doesn’t use it alot.

Wings of Fire Winter Turning by Tui T. Sutherland
Wings of Fire is a New York Times Bestseller and has over 10 books in the series. Winter Turning is the seventh of the Wings of Fire series and has over 300 pages.

Winter goes to a school called Jade Mountain Academy that was created by the prophecy dragonets. The first book in the series told the stories of the dragonets.
In this book, a former queen dragon plots against the Academy by controlling a dragon from the school to commit crimes to get revenge. It is up to Winter to find out who was being controlled. As the story unfolds, it turns out to be a dragon in Winter’s family.
I rate this book a 10/10 because it is full of action and mysteries. I especially liked the part where Winter figured out who his long lost brother was. I recommend this book for kids all ages because while it might not have any pictures, it does a good job at describing what a world of dragons is like.

It is also a little sad because when the Yanakakis family entered the compound the grandma and brother were left outside The Compound because they didn't make it in time. I would call this book a cliff-hanger and a page-turner. A page-turner because it tells you exciting life stories about the two brothers. A cliffhanger because when something bad happens it ends the chapter and tells you another character's point of view.

The Compound by S.A. Bodeen
Sirens blared as the Yanakakis family entered The Compound… I love The Compound because it has action, drama, and suspense. It's about a father that keeps his family in an underground nuclear bunker that he built using all his money that he made ( he is the owner of YK industries, the biggest computer software developer in the world).

This book is pretty long, but the setting, characters, and events are sure to keep you entertained all along the way. If you like action packed books, The Compound is for you.
The Compound has gotten lots and lots of awards. The author is originally a picture book writer and this is her first chapter book. Her name is Stephanie Stuve-bodeen. Most of the people that have read The Compound have given it a good review. Other books she has made include, The Raft, The Fallout, (the second book to The Compound!) and many, many more! I would definitely rate this book a five out of five.
