Leaping into March - Feb. 29, 2020

It is hard to believe that February is now over and we are embarking on the last four months of the school year.  We have had many exciting things happen recently and covered a great deal of material, but we still have lots left so we continue to work hard and still have fun.  We are popping into the next four months...
Here are some of the other highlights:

Feb. 21, 2020 - Field trip with the Grade 6 Students.  This field trip took place at the YouthLinks, Calgary Police Interpretive Center and was focused on Crime Scene Investigation techniques and tools (Grade 6 science.)

Feb. 25, 2020 - In Grade 5, we wrapped up our Chemistry topic in Science and we will be moving onto Electricity and Magnetism.  Here is the last experiment we did testing Acids and Bases.
In Social Studies we have been working on some Greek vase designs as we are wrapping up the topic of Democracy in Ancient Athens (Grade 6 Social Studies.)  All students are participating in this task.  The designs are meant to incorporate not only the past (what was in Ancient Greece) but also the future (what we live now.)  This is just an initial sampling:
In ELA, students wrote their own books based on the "Bartholomew and the Oobleck" book by Dr. Seuss.  I will post a few of these soon.  We will try to make time to read some to our classmates once I return them to the students.  We have also started to read our next Novel Study book: Pay it Forward.  We will get the chance to see the movie as well when we are finished.

For French, we worked on some beautiful menus for our imagined French restaurants.  I will post some pictures of these as well at a later time.

To top it all off this week, we also had some delicious pancakes on Shrove Tuesday.  Thank you to the parent volunteers and the Knights of Columbus for the wonderful, fluffy and absolutely delicious pancakes.

Happy Leap Year!

Here's a short video on why we have Leap Years and how they work :)
